I'm nearly finished my fab new refashioned cardigan. I still have no idea what to make for winter... so on Saturday I decided it was about time I did something with the vile yet good quality wool jumpers that I bought from an op-shop last year. This is the almost finished result:

These are the monstrosities from which it originates:

The only problem is... I can't decide on the buttons! I spent about an hour at Spotlight today trying to decide.... so I bought both... but I still don't know which I like better.
Option 1 - Black and silver metal and glass coat of arms buttons

Option 2 - Brass domes

Option 3 - Hypothetical vintage brass buttons from eBay
Option 4 - Something else entirely which you will specify in the comments
What do you guys think?
Great re-fashioning!! I like the coat of arms buttons.
ReplyDeleteAnd here I prefer the brass domes. :)
ReplyDeleteOut of the 2--the brass domes. Gives a Chanel vibe.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a transformation. I prefer the coat of arms buttons. The domes look too old-ladyish on that sweater. Ps. That sweater looks so expensive!!!!!
ReplyDeleteyou made two ugly cardis into one amazing one!!!!!!

definitely the brass domes!!
ReplyDeletevery nice re-fashion
brass domes are my pick!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I choose brass domes! Did you use an ordinary sewing machine or an overlock on this one?
ReplyDeleteI'm on team brass dome. And you've done an amazing job with this btw!
ReplyDeleteFantastic job....of these two choices, I say the brass. You can see them more and they had a "pop" to the cardigan. Sorry I'm not more help. Do you crochet? I have a couple of ideas for winter if you do.
ReplyDeleteI like the brass domes as well-- Cute!
ReplyDeleteOooh,
ReplyDeletehard one.
When I keep on going back and forth through the pictures (you're not going to like the contrariness of this) but the......no, no I change my mind. Brass. The black and white buttons make your sweater really original but the brass buttons make it consignment worthy.
GREAT refashion! The striped knit trim is flawless.
Amazing! I like the black and silver buttons :)
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing and very vintage Coco Chanel! Along the vintage lines, I like the black and silver buttons better than the silver domes (which strike me as modern looking).
ReplyDeleteAny plans on posting a tutorial on this refashion?? :)
It looks lovely. I like the coat of arms buttons personally.
ReplyDeleteAmazing refashion!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely:
Option 1 - Black and silver metal and glass coat of arms buttons
Makes it look totally spiffy (my daughter's word ;).
Enjoy your new cardigan!

brass domes and none on the pockets!
ReplyDeleteOoh you're so clever... My vote is for the brass domes.
ReplyDeleteMy vote is the black and silver metal ones - and it would be great to see a pic of you sporting the final versions on your great new cardi! Well done.
ReplyDeleteLove the refashion! Such a great idea! But I don't know if I can help you with the buttons. I like both and I'm usually quite indecisive about my buttons choices too...
ReplyDeleteI cannot decide either, here are my thoughts though, the coat of arms gives it a more preppy masculine look, would contrast brilliantly with the rest of your feminine exquisitely tailored pieces. The brass domes I would agree with the others and say gives it more of a Chanel edge, which seems totally in line with your champagne tastes beer income 'thing'.Either way it looks amazing you have done a fantastic job once again, I would never have thought of mixing the two! Coincidentally this weeks refashions for me are cardigans too, one is insanely naf, I am hoping the 'it's so wrong it's right' philosophy will ring true, but I do fear it is a bit Ugly Betty -ish. Will see once it is finished later this week! Oh and to answer your questions from ages ago - Ben Affleck, but yes could also be easily persuaded into Jake too, those Gyllenhaal's have amazing genetics, Maggie is stunning too!
ReplyDeleteWow. That's an amazing refashion, and its going to look incredible no matter which buttons you choose. I'm not going to weigh in with my opinion (seems like people are fairly equally divided above, which is going to make it tricky for you!!)
ReplyDeleteWell done!
And yes, that is my trench coat. I'm going to give it its own post soon...
What a great refashion! I really like the coat of arms buttons. What are you going to wear this with? I am instantly visualising a short, pleated navy skirt and funky patterned tights.
ReplyDeletedarling this is FABULOUS!!!!! And i most definatly vote for the first buttons. x
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great makeover! I vote for the first buttons, though the gold dome shaped ones are cute too. I don't think you would go wrong using either.
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Linda
Thats a great refashioning...I would choose the brass buttons but the others are also cute.
ReplyDeleteI love the coat of arms, but then I am fashionably challenged and old. So go for the brass ones.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how amazing you made two horrid cardigans look! Genius! Oh my, I see why you're torn, I was convinced I would say brass buttons when I saw your post this morning, but today I'm thinking coat of arms since I notice the b/g colour on those buttons go very well with the edges of the cardi.
ReplyDeleteooh! ooh! brass domes! brass domes!
ReplyDeleteOption 1 - very nautical.
ReplyDeletebrass domes on the centre front opening, option 1 for the pockets. they'll balance out the features.
ReplyDeletebrass domes for sure, because the arms get lost in the pattern of the trim. :)
ReplyDeleteoh, and i say leave the pockets alone.
I wanted to let you know that I nominated you for the Kreativ blogger award here : http://www.elenacresci.co.uk/2010/02/25/id-like-to-thank-the-academy-and-sewithought
