I've started cycling to the hospital because I desperately need the exercise and I don't mind exercise so much if it has a purpose (ie to get me somewhere I'm already going). But this puts further strain on my already meagre clothing pool.
What can one wear while cycling and still remain chic?
Edit: Oh yeah... the self-stitched part is the blouse that is refashioned and is actually reasonably cool but you can't see the good bits in the photo.

Oh so many things. Just approach all of your regular style and sewing inspiration with practicality in mind. How did people dress way back when to ride a bike? Plenty of people did it.
ReplyDeleteYou look great, by the way.
There is a german online shop where you can buy those special textils/fabrics which are used for sportswear. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI recently bougt this merino jersey - and I was blown away by the good quality.
girl, I wear my regular clothes when Im cycling around! Cycling in dresses and things is just something you have to get used to! Ive been known to cycle in skirts that make it rather difficult, but who cares if I look AWESOME right! (And Im sure I inspire awe in all hahaha)
ReplyDeletehahah,the cardigan of doom!!!
ReplyDeleteDarl,I wear my regular clothes too! My only problem is my hair, but with a smaller padding thingy I can get my buns under my helmet just fine! I only wear frocks or sometimes skirts, and just avoid maxis on my bike,as I've fecked up many a lovely maxi by getting it caught int he chain or wheel!I wear safety pants underneath so there's no crotch exposure!
Go hard! XXX
I always ride my bike to class and I only ever wear dresses or skirts, i just wear a pair of bike shorts underneath. Sometimes I'll take it off when I get to school, other times I just leave them on. When it gets cool enough to wear tights I will just leave the shorts at home.
ReplyDeleteYou're the perfect candidate for Frocks on Bikes, which is all about cycling being a perfectly ordinary everyday sort of transport that requires perfectly ordinary everyday sort of clothing. No lycra needed! frocksonbikes.wordpress.com/melbourne
ReplyDeleteHah, I bike to hospital/uni for the same reason! I made myself a pair of lace-hemmed shorts that are a bit shorter than my shortest skirt. I cycle in pretty much anything except super tight skirts or dresses with a long&wide skirt. Right now, it's mostly denim skirts and leggins...
